While the next-generation MacBook Pro is expected to receive just a few changes in addition to the Apple M5 Pro and M5 Max chipsets, rumors suggest that the succeeding model based on the Apple M6 will take a bigger leap. For the first time since the 2021 version with the Apple M1 Max, Apple is expected to treat its most powerful laptop to a completely new design that will be both thinner and lighter.
In addition to the new processors from the Apple M6 series, the display is expected to be the highlight of the new MacBook Pro. Apple is allegedly replacing the current mini LED screen with an advanced tandem OLED panel. It could potentially sport a higher contrast ratio, more vibrant colors and consume less power. It remains to be seen if the OLED display will also be brighter, since the current MacBook Pro (from $1,499 on Amazon) can already hit a very respectable peak brightness of 1,600 nits in HDR mode. Analysts from Omdia (via DigiTimes) now report that this new screen is also expected to lack the rather controversial notch.
Instead, Apple could place the MacBook Pro webcam in a punch-hole that could function as a Dynamic Island, similar to the iPhone 16. Apple might use the display area around the punch-hole to show things like timers or notify users of important events such as incoming phone calls. A punch-hole is unusual for laptops, but compared to the gigantic notch, it should give the MacBook Pro a more modern look. The OLED-equipped MacBook Pro M6 is expected to hit the market towards the end of 2026.
